1. The short version
Some of the links on this site are paid links. If you click one and buy something, the seller pays us a commission. It does not cost you anything extra. Not every product we write about carries a paid link — often only one product on a page does, and the page says which one.
That is the whole arrangement. The rest of this page explains it properly, because “affiliate link” on its own is not a phrase most people can be expected to understand, and the US Federal Trade Commission takes the same view.
2. How we get paid
We do not charge for anything and we do not run display advertising. The site is funded by affiliate commission: a merchant agrees to pay us a percentage of a sale, or a flat fee, when a customer reaches them through a tracked link on one of our pages.
When you click such a link, the merchant records that the visit came from us. If you buy within their tracking window, their system credits us. We are paid by the merchant out of their own margin — your price is the price they advertise to everybody.
3. Which links are paid
Every page that contains a paid link says so at the top, above the content it applies to, in plain language. We do not put the disclosure only in the footer.
On most of our comparison pages, only one product carries a paid link. The other products in the ranking have no link at all. We do this deliberately: it means we earn nothing from where the other products land, and you can see that for yourself because there is simply nothing to click. Where a product has no link, the page says so in plain text rather than showing a button that does nothing.
For example, on our cooling bed sheet comparison, five products are ranked and exactly one of them is a paid link. That is stated in the disclosure bar at the top of the page, beside the product itself, and again in the footer.
4. Does it cost you more?
No. You pay the merchant's normal price. Affiliate commission comes out of the merchant's margin, not out of your pocket, and following our link does not remove you from any sale or discount you would otherwise get.
If you would rather not use our link, you are welcome to search for the product directly. It costs us the commission and costs you nothing either way, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.
5. How money affects our rankings — honestly
This is the part most disclosure pages skip, so here it is directly.
Commercial relationships influence which products we are able to feature. We can only place a paid link where a merchant runs an affiliate program we have been accepted into. A product with no program cannot carry a link on our site, no matter how good it is. That is a real constraint and it shapes what we write about.
Commercial relationships do not decide the order. Every ranking on this site is scored against criteria we publish on the page itself — you can read exactly what we measured and how we weighted it. Where a product we earn from ranks first, the page has to show its work, and the products below it get a fair write-up with their genuine advantages stated.
Where a paid product is not the best choice for you, we say so. Our comparison pages name the situations where a cheaper or unpaid alternative is the better buy. If a ranking cannot honestly support the product we earn from, we do not publish the ranking.
We think that is the right balance, and we would rather set it out than let you guess at it.
6. How we review products
Our comparisons are built from manufacturers' published specifications and from independent testing published elsewhere. We do not currently run our own laboratory tests, and we do not describe our work as “tested” on pages where no testing happened.
- Every page states the criteria used and how they were weighted.
- Where a figure comes from a manufacturer rather than an independent test, the page attributes it to the manufacturer.
- Where we cannot find a figure we trust, the page says “not stated” rather than guessing or leaving a misleading blank.
- Where two products score the same, the page explains what broke the tie.
7. What our scores are, and are not
The numeric scores on our pages — 9.2 out of 10, and so on — are our own editorial judgment, applied against the criteria published on that page.
They are not aggregated customer ratings, review counts, or star ratings collected from buyers. We do not publish customer review counts we have not collected, and we do not mark our editorial scores up as consumer ratings in our structured data, because presenting one as the other would be misleading. If we ever publish genuine consumer review data, it will be labeled as such and its source will be named.
8. What we do not accept
- We do not accept payment in exchange for a particular score, rank or verdict.
- We do not let a merchant approve, review or edit our copy before it is published.
- We do not publish content written by a brand and presented as our own opinion.
- We do not invent reviewer credentials, testing histories or expertise, and we do not use stock photographs as pictures of our writers.
- We do not fabricate ratings, review counts or testimonials.
Receiving a free sample, where it happens, will be disclosed on the page in question. At the time of writing we have not received any.
9. Prices and availability
Prices move constantly and stock runs out. Every price on this site is the price we saw when the page was last updated, and pages carry the date they were updated. Where a price is approximate or unverified, the page marks it as such rather than presenting it as confirmed.
Always check the price on the merchant's own page before you buy. If you spot one of ours that is wrong, please tell us and we will fix it.
10. Corrections
If something on this site is inaccurate, out of date or unfair to a product, tell us and we will correct it. We do not remove criticism because a brand asked us to, and we do not add praise because a brand offered to pay for it. Where a correction materially changes a recommendation, we note the change on the page.
